The 2004 Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime controversy was created on February 1, 2004, when Justin Timberlake performed with Janet Jackson during Super Bowl XXXVIII's halftime show. During the show, Timberlake removed Jackson's bra, revealing her bare breasts for 9/16th of a second. The show, which was created by Viacom's MTV network, became controversial and MTV was prohibited from making any new halftime shows infinitely. CBS was fined $550,000, which was dropped in 2008. This withered the old Viacom so much, it is generally considered one of the main 3 reasons why Viacom split late in 2005. This proves that halftime shows suck. It's amazing what lengths MTV can go to, considering that it airs boring reality shows.
